The Strokestown river or Mountain River are excellent for trout fishing. There is excellent wild brown trout fishing on Lough Key in May and June during the May fly season.  The Boyle River is also very good for trout fishing as well as Lough Arrow; the Unshin and Riverstown rivers.  Another excellent lake for trout fishing is Lough Bo, just north of Lough Arrow. There are a number of small trout fishing rivers locally such as the Arigna River, The Yellow River, The Bonnet nearby Drumkeeran and the Feorish at Geevagh.
